A woman from Washington state was charged with a felony after allegedly making 18 threatening phone calls to a Maricopa County animal shelter in the span of about 40 minutes. According to court documents, Katie Michelle Dickson, 37, of Vancouver, Washington, called Maricopa County Animal Care and Control 18 separate times on June 26, 2024. Maricopa County officials say the calls included threats of arson, murder and sexual violence directed at employees, and that most of them were recorded. What officials initially believed to be an explosive threat prompted an evacuation of the MCACC building and a search by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad. Investigators later determined there was no clear mention of one in the recordings. Dickson turned herself in to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office after a warrant was issued for her arrest, and later bonded out.
