Border Patrol says 143 people were arrested during a five-day enforcement operation in Arizona’s Yuma Sector, including 95 commercial truck drivers who authorities say were in the country illegally while holding state-issued commercial driver’s licenses. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the operation ran from August 10 through August 14 and involved local law enforcement partners working alongside Border Patrol agents to target human and drug smuggling activity in the region. CBP says the 143 people arrested came from 18 different countries. Of the 95 commercial drivers taken into custody, 76 held California-issued CDLs, six held licenses from New York and the remaining licenses were issued by other states. Authorities also reported intercepting two separate human-smuggling events during the operation, resulting in the arrests of four alleged smugglers and 17 people being smuggled.
