Spotted: #WashU30 in the Lou! From an evening in the Delmar Loop to a sip of a classic Fitz’s soda, first-year students are getting to know St. Louis beyond campus by exploring neighborhoods, connecting with local organizations and participating in service projects. #WashU #WashU30 visited Uhuru House Community Center and Black Power Blueprint to learn how these organizations are supporting community development and welcoming spaces in North St. Louis. Through the neighborhood food tours, students got a taste of St. Louis culture, visiting the brick-and-mortar of campus favorite The Fattened Caf., known for its Filipino cuisine, and exploring Cherokee Street, a vibrant St. Louis neighborhood that’s home to many Hispanic-owned restaurants, grocery stores and bakeries. Planting the seeds 🌱: At the Emerson YMCA O.G.’s Community Garden, students pulled weeds, cleared garden beds and helped prepare the space for fall planting.
