Today, on International Overdose Awareness Day, we remember those lost to overdose and stand with the individuals, families and communities affected by addiction.
At the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, we recognize addiction as a chronic brain disease that requires an ecosystem of care — connecting prevention, evidence-based treatment, behavioral health, recovery support, community resources and continued neuroscience and technology innovation.
West Virginia has experienced the impact of the opioid crisis more deeply than almost anywhere in the country. That experience drives our work to help build a more connected, patient-centered model of addiction care — one that expands treatment options, supports lasting recovery and can ultimately reach more communities.
Recovery is possible.
