When you face adversity of any kind, small or large, keep this one equation in mind... E + R = O Event + Response = Outcome In other words, the event that occurs plus our response to that event will determine the actual outcome of the initiating event. As human beings, we are able to consciously respond and assign meaning to particular events in our lives. When challenges arise, we must intentionally choose our response to that event. Are we going to accept the challenge, accept responsibility, find solutions, and proactively find the support we need or are we going to wallow in self-pity, “why me?”, and a victim mentality? This simple equation gives us agency and allows us to be creators of our lives, not spectators. We get to write the story of our lives and our careers. We get to assign meaning to each moment.
