“The sound, it was deafening, absolutely deafening, and I just remember this bright ball of fire that just went right over my head,” John Yates told 60 Minutes in 2001. On 9/11, a plane hit the Pentagon just below his office. The plane obliterated the first and part of the second floor, but his floor remained suspended in midair for 35 minutes. Hundreds of people escaped, including Yates. How was that possible?
