On September 11, 2001, 343 firefighters died under the rubble at ground zero. In a New York City Fire Department tradition, at each funeral and memorial service, a so-called band of brothers — active and retired firefighters — played the mournful and traditional bagpipe tunes, like "Amazing Grace," to, as they say, "pipe them to heaven." The toll of the grief and the level of their loyalty was apparent when 60 Minutes' Dan Rather spoke with some of the bagpipers in November 2021. “I've played more in six weeks, buried more guys in six weeks than I've done in 22 years as a firefighter,” one band member told him. This year marks 25 years since the attacks. #nyc #firefighters #bagpipes
