English teacher Hannah Kipp’s students were focused on taking their first English 2 semester pre-test when five building administrators, including principal Leah Vomhof walked into her classroom on Aug. 21, as a phone filmed behind them.
“My first thought was, ‘Oh, no, what happened?’” Kipp said. “But the smiles on [the administration’s] faces kind of gave it away that nothing bad was going on.”
Vomhof announced to Kipp and her first hour class that Kipp was the district’s nomination for best first-year teacher for the Kansas Horizon Award Program — with only one chosen from each school.
