Before his $733,802 win at the 2010 WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship, Dwyte Pilgrim was a self described “true tournament grinder,” with his previous biggest win of $125,775 coming just years before.
Pilgrim had played in events with buy-ins ranging from $200 to $10,000, but had yet to achieve the career-defining win he had been so desperately chasing.
He entered the Final Table sitting at 4th in chips before a roller-coaster ride to the victory.
Although Pilgrim faded into obscurity (his last poker tournament cash was recorded over 10 years ago), his win serves as a prime example of the tournament poker dream and what it means to the players.
