A day that marked the first collegiate volleyball matches in Wrigley Field’s 112-year history ended with No. 1 Nebraska’s matchup against Missouri postponed because of unsafe court conditions. Kentucky defeated Penn State in four sets in the opening match Sunday night. Nebraska and Missouri followed, but humidity created a slippery playing surface as the second match began. The teams played only 18 points. Nebraska led 11-7 before officials postponed the match. Problems surfaced during warmups, when players struggled to jump and land without slipping. The match was briefly paused just three points in as workers attempted to dry the court. Players and coaches also helped wipe down the surface. After another stoppage, crews applied a coating to the Teraflex court in an attempt to improve traction. But conditions did not improve enough to safely continue.
