Low elbow? Wide armslot?
This is one of the fastest, easiest ways to improve your armpath and your kinetic whip sequence.
I want you to envision two completely non-football-related actions:
1- Chopping down a standing tree with an axe. This would require a low, wide, horizontal swing path.
2- Splitting a block of wood for your fireplace. This requires a more vertical ‘top-down’ action.
If you’re a QB with a low elbow or an armslot that is too wide, imagine your elbow is an axe and you’re splitting firewood with it when you throw.
This will encourage a more elliptical, over-the-top elbow path.
The concept of ‘throwing the elbow’ rather than throwing the hand will result in a more efficient proximal-to-distal whip sequence as your body decelerates, which will accelerate your arm into full extension at release.
**It will also minimize mechanical strain to the elbow and shoulder.
