Indonesia’s National Nutrition Agency has temporarily shut down nearly 2,000 kitchens supplying meals through the country’s free-meals program, after they failed to meet mandatory hygiene requirements.
The agency suspended 1,999 kitchens that had not registered with the health ministry for required hygiene and sanitation certification, its chief, Sudaryono, said.
The agency will now investigate the kitchens before deciding whether further action is needed.
Since its launch last year, President Prabowo Subianto’s flagship program has faced a series of problems, including widespread food poisoning outbreaks.
