Gloria Steinem spent her life fighting to rewrite the rules of what a woman’s life could look like. The feminist trailblazer, who has died at 92, became one of the most influential figures in the women’s movement - fighting for equal pay, abortion rights and greater political representation. She also challenged expectations in her own life, speaking openly about being happily child-free at a time when women were overwhelmingly expected to become wives and mothers. Steinem spent decades fighting for women to have more choices - and millions grew up with more of them because she did. Her final memoir, An Unexpected Life, reflecting on six decades of activism, will be published posthumously on September 22.
