Real Madrid football club has deleted a social media post which caused controversy in China.
On August 30, the club’s players held a minute’s silence before their home match against Malaga. The club’s official account on X, formerly known as Twitter, posted a picture with the caption "A moment of silence at the Bernabéu for the victims of floods in Nepal and Tibet."
Equating the sovereign country of Nepal with the autonomous Chinese region of Xizang caused much offence in China, where a 2019 EU report estimated there are more than 125 million Real Madrid fans.
On September 3, the post was deleted. The original link now shows "page not found."
