A major transformation is planned for the Bowie State MARC Station. The Maryland Department of Transportation, Prince George’s County, and Bowie State University have announced the next steps for a large transit-oriented development surrounding the MARC station. Nearly 100 acres of state- and county-owned land could be transformed into a walkable, mixed-use community featuring new housing, retail and commercial spaces, offices, innovation hubs, public spaces, and improved pedestrian and bicycle connections. Plans also include an extended MARC platform and a new pedestrian bridge connecting the development directly to Bowie State’s campus. At full build-out, the project could bring more than 400 housing units, support approximately 670 construction jobs, generate an estimated $108 million in state and local tax revenue, and add up to 42,000 MARC trips annually.
