We thought bringing in the heavy equipment was going to solve all our problems... we were dead wrong. After getting the John Deere 1025R sub-compact tractor stuck fighting the deceptive mud, we stepped up our game and brought in a full-size skid steer to dig out this backyard pond and hit our target depth.
The top crust looked completely solid, but the second we pushed into the center of the basin, the machine broke through the hard clay and sank straight down into the deep, pudding-like black sludge. With the tracks completely buried and zero traction, what was supposed to be a productive day of shaping the bass habitat turned into a high-stakes, all-hands-on-deck heavy equipment recovery mission.
Can we winch, pull, and dig ourselves out of this disaster, or is this machine officially stuck until next summer?
