Every line of copy has two things going on: what it says and what it means. In voice acting this is called subtext, and it's the same technique stage and film actors use. A line like "we've been doing this for years" can read as pride, exhaustion, or resentment depending on the emotional intention behind it. Before recording, ask yourself what the speaker actually wants and what they're not quite saying out loud. That internal choice shows up in the read even when the words stay exactly the same.
