The classical guitar has one of the most beautiful sounds in music, but it’s also one of the quietest. That’s why it’s rarely featured with a full orchestra. Historically, composers had to carefully design the entire orchestration so the guitar wouldn’t disappear into the sound of dozens of other instruments. One of the most famous examples that gets it right is Concierto de Aranjuez. On April 11, internationally acclaimed guitarist Iakovos Kolanian joins the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra to perform this legendary concerto live.
