History came alive at our concert last Friday! 🕯️ In 1772, Haydn wrote his “Farewell” Symphony to subtly hint to Prince Nikolaus I that his musicians wanted to return home after an extended stay at the palace. During the final movement, one by one, musicians would stop playing, blow out their candles, and leave the stage until only two violins remained—just as we tried to recreate at our concert. The Prince got the message and everyone went home to their families the next day! 250 years later, we brought this touching piece of classical music history to Vancouver.
