The first Toronto Star’s Lake Ontario Dog Derby swimming contest was held at the CNE regatta course September 5-6, 1933 Over 150 dogs from all over Ontario took part in four classes with a grand champion event. The big winner was Timmy, a Sheppard, who completed the 400-metre course in under 6 minutes.
