New service alert: Stock GX’s (4Runners), FJC’s, and Tacoma’s all have a bit of a week point, their steering racks, especially once they receive bigger tires and start off-roading. We wanted to start testing out our own version of a fix with off the shelf parts for a modified 2nd Gen Tundra steering rack retrofit. Notice the shafts sticking out of the racks, and the extra thickness in the bottom (cleaner) Tundra rack. Upgrades also included testing various thicker outer tie rods (Stock GX is the far right in photo 4). Seen here, we upgraded Ian’s personal GX, and had a great 40+ miles of rocky offroad Moab testing to feel it out, and it made a big difference.
