👶 The National Council on Teacher Quality, a non-profit research and policy organization, recently released an analysis that has unveiled the disconnect between state polices on paid parental leave and teachers. The analysis revealed that in Florida an estimated 1,846 out of 155,800 teachers leave the profession due to family reasons. These teachers tend to leave due to the time needed to take care of their own families. The National Council on Teacher Quality advocates for an increase in paid parental leave across the country. Heather Peske, the President of NCTQ, says that “We are really encouraging access to paid parental leave as one of the ways to support teachers to stay in the classroom.” By changing the policy from not guaranteeing paid parental leave to giving teachers 12 weeks of it, Florida would give teachers the option to work without choosing work over family.
