When Beau was four, he had several long-lasting nosebleeds. His parents became concerned and brought him to UCSF, where our team discovered he had
#AcuteMyeloidLeukemia (
#AML), a fast-growing blood and bone-marrow
#cancer.
Beau began treatment right away with Dr. Elliot Stieglitz, staying in the hospital for seven months for treatment and completing six cycles of
#chemo. During his time in the hospital, Beau attended our hospital school and regularly participated in our music therapy program.
“He loved his nurses,” Beau's dad, Tim, recalls. “Beau had a good time there and got to play and have fun and be a kid at
#UCSF.”
Happily, the chemo was successful! Beau was thrilled to go home to
#Burlingame when he was 5-and-a-half!
