Tomorrow I turn 49.
And the older I get, the less interested I am in celebrating the number, and the more grateful I am for everything that number represents.
My health.
My wife, family and friends.
The people I’ve met along the way.
The businesses and communities I’ve had the privilege of helping build.
The mistakes that taught me more than the wins ever could.
I’ve been very lucky in life.

Luck is where hard work meets opportunity.
You can’t control when opportunity shows up. But you can control whether you’re prepared when it does.
Train when nobody is watching.
Learn because you’re genuinely curious.
Do the work before there’s a reward attached to it.
Help people without keeping score.
Then, every once in a while, preparation and opportunity collide.
People call that luck.
And yes, there’s always some actual luck involved too. I’ve had plenty of it, and I’m grateful for that.
At 49, I don’t feel like I’m slowing...
