Gabriel Jacoby’s sound – steeped in funk, soul and grit – has gotten him countless comparisons, from Maxwell to Prince to D’Angelo. But the singer and self-taught guitarist is no starry-eyed revivalist: “I want you to be able to experience something new.” Born in South Carolina and raised in Tampa, Florida, Jacoby is constantly figuring out where his sound can go next – and how he can take his ‘Dirty South’ roots with him. “To some degree, it’s a dirty, muddy, rainy, muggy way of life. But a lot of the most beautiful things in the world came from the South.”
