Early in my caregiving journey, I felt no joy. I was overwhelmed by grief, shock, sadness, resentment, anxiety—just to name a few. And when I did experience a moment of joy, it was often followed by guilt and shame.
I’ve since learned that joy and grief can exist together. It can still be hard, but I now make a conscious choice to let joy in when it comes and to seek it out.
