A community partner, Earl, from @voiceoftheexperienced asked one of the simplest yet most important questions our justice system needs to focus on in the next 250 years when someone commits a crime: WHY? Simply punishing the crime is not the answer. We need to figure out why people are driven to commit these crimes in the first place and correct those issues rather than locking them up in a “correctional” facility that causes more harm than good. We cannot continue seeing crime and corrections as an individual issue. Especially when it comes to our children who are direct reflections of the environments that raise them. We are their village, and if we don’t like something we see in them, we have to turn that mirror around and take a deep look at ourselves. What is something important you think should happen when someone commits a crime in the next 250? Let us know in the comments! #justiceinthenext250 #youthjustice #communitycare #endmassincarceration #letstalkaboutit
