The pre and post auricular area, the tissues immediately in front of and behind the ear, is one of my favorite areas to work, and I rarely skip it. The face is not just skin. We are working with a network of superficial tissues, blood vessels, lymphatic vessels, muscles and fascia. The area around the ear is an important transition point between the face, scalp and neck. The preauricular region is particularly important for lymphatic drainage. Lymph from different areas of the face and scalp travels through regional lymphatic pathways before continuing toward the cervical lymphatic system. Gentle, anatomically directed work in this area supports fluid movement, local circulation and tissue mobility while preparing the tissues for the facial work that follows.
