Tonight, Sisters PGH proudly returned to the Allegheny County Jail Oversight Board meeting. While this was our first meeting back in some time, advocating alongside community for transgender people incarcerated in the Allegheny County Jail is work we’ve been doing for years. Our Founder & Executive Director, Ciora Thomas, and Monica Roberts Place Coordinator, Kennedy Botts, both spoke during public comment, emphasizing that transgender people deserve representation in decisions that directly impact our community. Ciora shared that meaningful oversight includes ensuring transgender voices have a seat at the table. We’re also excited to share that Ciora has officially applied to be considered for one of the three community representative seats on the Jail Oversight Board.
