This is a very tricky topic to discuss, BUT I’m here to tell you that while I honor my body for everything it’s done, I would be lying if I said I don’t look back at old photos and think “damn!”
For 40 years I was used to living in a body that completely obeyed me. I was certainly lucky, but I also worked exceptionally hard to achieve and maintain my physical ability over time.
I truly thought I had left my body dysmorphia in the past where it belonged as a young dancer, but several years later it came back to haunt me in a big way. I’ve had to work very hard to accept and adapt to this shift in life stage.
My priorities have changed. Period. My perfectly balanced workouts don’t always happen. Sometimes I come last in the pecking order. I have living beings that depend on me. But that does not mean that all vanity is gone.
So many times I struggle in my closet, surrounded by clothes that no longer serve me, yet unable to give them up with the hope that one day it might make sense...
