This image is a neutrino map of the Sun, not a conventional photograph. The bright central region represents neutrinos detected by the Super Kamiokande observatory in Japan, which originate from nuclear reactions in the Sun’s core. Because neutrinos interact so weakly with matter, they can travel through the Sun and even straight through Earth, meaning the detector can detect the Sun from below the horizon.
