An antenna’s shape determines how electromagnetic waves interact with it through resonance, impedance, polarization, and radiation patterns. That makes seemingly random bends and loops potentially useful rather than accidental.
NASA took this idea much further with its Space Technology 5 mission, using evolutionary algorithms to generate antenna geometries that humans might never have designed manually. The computer tested thousands of possibilities and selected shapes based on actual electromagnetic performance.
Sometimes, the most elegant solution is the one that looks completely wrong.
