The idea that you can cook a chicken by slapping it comes from a simple physics thought experiment. Kinetic energy depends on the square of velocity, according to KE = ½mv², so even a small increase in slap speed dramatically increases the energy involved. Using assumptions of a 0.4 kg hand, an 11 m/s slap and a 1 kg chicken, one slap would theoretically raise the chicken’s temperature by only about 0.0089°C. That means roughly 23,034 average slaps would be needed to reach the assumed cooking temperature.
The same calculation says a single slap would need to travel at about 1,665.65 m/s, more than four times the speed of sound. But this is an idealized calculation assuming essentially all the hand’s kinetic energy becomes heat in the chicken. In reality, the impact would destroy the chicken and the hand long before producing anything resembling a cooked meal.
