Oh boy. This one hurts. I mean in my childhood there were two TV dads that stood out. James Evans and Bill Cosby. Both were important. John Amos was the perfect image of masculinity and fatherly love with the right amount of vulnerability. His character was pivotal and so important in the series Good Times and I missed him immensely when they gave him an unwarranted and unceremonious off screen death. The show was never the same. When the phone call came and Florida Evans played by the wonderful Ester Rolle took the bad news it was life bleeding into art and vice versa.
