📌 Black women are 3x as likely to die from pregnancy related causes compared to white women. 📌 Black women are approximately 25% more likely to have unnecessary, unscheduled C-sections. 📌 1 in 7 Black women live in states that have banned or restricted reproductive health services. 📌 29% of Black women reported experiences of mistreatment during maternity care. 📌 Black women have about a 50% higher preterm rate compared to white or Latina women. 📌 29-44% of Black women experience postpartum depressive symptoms (PDS), yet few are properly identified and/or connected to mental health services. To truly improve the maternal health outcomes for Black women, we need more visibility, more stories, and more projects to raise awareness, provide resources for Black women to advocate for themselves, educate people on what they need to do to maintain and protect their health, and hold health care providers accountable. #BlackMaternalHealthWeek 💜💛
