A Berlin artist has created a shirt designed to confuse AI-powered camera systems and make them less likely to recognize the person wearing it. 👕 The project is called Digital Camouflage, and its unusual pattern isn't just for style. Artist Simon Weckert (simonweckert) developed the design by experimenting with different visual patterns and testing how they performed against YOLO, an open-source AI system used for detecting people and objects in images and video. The pattern was repeatedly adjusted until the AI became significantly less confident that it was looking at a person. The project comes as Berlin prepares to introduce AI-assisted video surveillance around Kottbusser Tor, where camera systems could analyse footage and identify certain types of behaviour.
