2,753 empty chairs fill Bryant Park today in a powerful tribute marking 25 years since September 11, 2001. Each empty chair represents one of the 2,753 people who lost their lives at the World Trade Center on 9/11, with the chairs facing south toward the former World Trade Center site. From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, September 11, visitors are invited to walk through the Chairs of Remembrance installation, write a message of remembrance, and place a white carnation on one of the empty chairs. For the first 3,000 carnations placed, Bank of America will donate $25 per flower—up to $75,000 total—to organizations supporting first responders and their families.
