The historic Golden Gate Fields horse racing track could become a renovated park in the coming years if California legislators approve $125 million that has been set aside to turn it into a public park. Golden Gate Fields sits on the waterfront between Berkeley and Albany, just north of the Berkeley Marina. It spans 162 acres, of which 31 are under water. The horse racing facility closed after 83 years in 2024. Gov. Gavin Newsom had previously allocated up to $125 million for the purchase of the land in his state budget proposal in June, and state Sen.
