Increasing protein intake has been the conversation for a long time and yes, protein matters. But honestly, I don’t think that’s the biggest issue in our community.
If you’re reading this, chances are you ate chicken last night… and maybe the night before too. Protein is not always where we’re falling short.
Where we are struggling is moving away from our traditional diets; diets that were naturally rich in plant fibre.
Whether you’re from the Caribbean or Africa, many of our traditional meals were built around fibre-rich foods: beans, lentils, greens, okra, plantain, roots, whole grains, fruits and seeds.
But today, we often build our plates around the starch and the protein and forget the fibre.
