“Walk a mile in their shoes!” is what my mama used to say that to me when I was a kid. Usually, when I was convinced I was right. She was teaching me something I didn’t have a word for yet: perspective. To see the world from somewhere other than where you’re standing. So much of my perspective has been shaped by the women whose footsteps I’ve followed in. The women in my family, the women in sports journalism who stepped onto the court before me, who made a path where there wasn’t always one.
