“I’m doing everything.” I hear it more than any other sentence, and after over twenty years in women’s health I’m going to say the controversial part out loud: that sentence is usually the problem.
Because here’s what “everything” means when we unpack it. Walking. Workouts. Lifting. More protein. All good things. All the visible things. And almost never the things actually deciding your weight.
Your body adapts to exercise. The fitter you get, the less the same session burns. I’ve worked with endurance athletes who trained daily and still couldn’t out-run their intake. Meanwhile “everything” almost never includes an honest week of food, and it never includes the four systems running underneath: muscle that’s been declining since your thirties, insulin sensitivity fading years before bloodwork flags it, sleep setting your hunger hormones every night, and a gut deciding how much of your dinner counts.
