While the track characteristics were initially considered potentially favourable to the YZR-M1, the team was unable to find the right setup balance throughout the day, despite making several changes in an effort to improve the feeling and performance of both riders. The morning session provided some encouraging signs, with both riders showing a more competitive pace on the medium tyre. Toprak Razgatlıoğlu finished 14th, while Jack Miller was 17th, giving the team a useful starting point from which to build for the afternoon.
