BIG NEWS: Over 1.6 million acres (676,000 hectares) of Brazilian ecosystems are now protected. 🇧🇷 On September 8, the President of Brazil lulaoficial announced four new Sustainable Development Reserves in the Amazon and expanded Sete Cidades National Park in the Caatinga biome in Piauí. We congratulate the government on these important efforts to protect critical ecosystems while supporting the communities who live in and depend on them. The four new reserves, all located in the region surrounding the BR-319 highway, are designated to help safeguard biodiversity and protect the ancestral territories of Indigenous Peoples. In Piauí, the Sete Cidades National Park was expanded by over 17,000 acres (6,900 hectares), strengthening protection for threatened species like the endemic Cerrado Little Brown Bat.
