The other day at the Wooden Boat Festival I got the privilege of meeting sailing legend Lin Pardey after listening to her speak at the nw_maritime center. To be honest, I didn’t really know what to expect. I figured it would mostly be sailing talk. Boats, storms, passages, and such. But it wasn’t. A lot of what she talked about was aimed directly toward people who are wanting to chase big dreams, and sitting there listening to her was honestly pretty surreal. She managed to put words to a lot of the feelings I’ve had about what I’m about to attempt. The fear, the doubt, the excitement, etc. At one point she said that one thing everyone she has met who has gone on to sail around the world, seems to have in common is that they are incredibly stubborn. Hearing that made me chuckle. Afterward she was gracious enough to spend some time talking with me.
