A 76-year-old Phoenix man called 911 after confronting his roommate over $50 that was supposed to go toward the electric bill. By the time he made the call, police say he had already been badly injured. The incident happened April 30 at an apartment near 24th Avenue and Hazelwood Street. During the 911 call, dispatchers could reportedly hear another man in the background asking whether he was calling police. When officers arrived, the 76-year-old told them his 31-year-old roommate, Troy Yazzie, punched him and repeatedly struck him with a construction helmet after the two argued over the missing money. He was hospitalized with severe injuries and spent roughly 10 weeks moving between medical facilities before passing away July 11. Investigators recovered the hard hat outside the apartment complex the following day, but Yazzie had already left Phoenix and gone to Flagstaff.
