The strangest thing about the Casa Grande Domes was never the ghost stories. It was how they were built. In 1982, electronics company InnerConn Technology announced plans for a manufacturing complex on 135 acres near Casa Grande. The futuristic dome design was chosen because it was cheap, fast to build and better suited for Arizona heat. And the construction method was insane. Workers poured a foundation, inflated a massive reusable balloon over it, sprayed foam across the outside, covered that with concrete, then deflated and removed the balloon once the shell hardened. Seven buildings were planned, including six long caterpillar-shaped domes and one flying-saucer-shaped structure. Only four were completed.
