What began as a celebration ended in catastrophe. On July 27, 2002, thousands gathered at an airshow in Lviv, Ukraine, expecting a thrilling display of aviation skill. Instead, they witnessed one of the deadliest airshow disasters in history. A Ukrainian Air Force Su-27 fighter jet lost control during a low-altitude maneuver and crashed directly into the crowd below. The pilots ejected and survived, initially claiming the tragedy was caused by technical failure. But the investigation told a different story. Officials later concluded that a chain of human errors, poor judgment, and failure to follow the approved flight plan led to the disaster.
