Meet the winner of the 2026 Rubin Museum Himalayan Art Prize: Bhutanese artist Pem Lham. Working across painting and mixed media, Pem Lham (@pempoko_art) draws from her surroundings, personal experiences, and Bhutanese cultural traditions to create works that move between reality and surrealism. At the center of much of her practice is Molay, a figure from traditional Bhutanese mask dance, whom Pem Lham uses to explore womanhood, power, vulnerability, and belonging. The Rubin Museum Himalayan Art Prize is the largest international award supporting contemporary art related to the Himalayan regions. Pem Lham will receive $30,000 in unrestricted funds to support her continued research, experimentation, and future projects.
