I took this shot, but a flat calm lake under a clear sky usually means the fish are sat up in the layers doing nothing and a bottom bait can sit there all day being ignored. What I actually want is the change, the first day of new weather after a settled spell, a fresh warm wind into a bank I can fish, some cloud on it and the temperature holding steady or climbing.
