We have just entered uncharted territory.
Last week the UN admitted it. The world is now expected to exceed the 1.5C climate target, with global temperatures projected to peak at around 1.8C even under the best-case scenario. On current government policies we are heading for 2.6C above pre-industrial levels by 2100.
We had over 100 years of warning. Scientists told us. Communities on the front line told us. And still, through political cowardice and deliberate inaction, we are walking into the fire with our eyes open.
1.5C is not a line between safe and dangerous. It is the point where every fraction of a degree buys more wildfires, more floods, more droughts, more heatwaves that kill. The carbon budgets for 1.6C and 1.7C, enough to trigger catastrophic weather extremes, force millions from their homes and wipe out nearly all of the world's coral reefs, run out in roughly eight and twelve years.
I made this track after hearing James Rodgers (rodgers__james) speak. A young British f...
